Mission:  The McConnell Middle School Media Center supports the GCPS and local school mission statements.

The purpose of the program is to support all areas of the curriculum, teach successful search strategies, facilitate effective use of technology and encourage lifelong reading.

Media Staff:  Ann Cummings, Media Specialist; Tana Shackelton, Media Clerk.

Procedures

Hours:
The Media Center is open from 8:30 AM to 3:50 PM.  Students not accompanied by a teacher must have a signed media pass to use the Media Center.

LOANS:

  • Students may check out three books at a time for two weeks.
  • Students use their student number to check out books(typed into a keypad at the circulation desk).
  • Students must return any overdue materials before checking out anything new.
  • Staff members may check out books for nine weeks.
  • Encyclopedias and sets of reference materials are to be used in the Media Center.  All reference materials may be checked out overnight when needed for assignments.
  • Magazines may be checked out overnight, only one at a time.
  • Students may only check out two Community of Readers books at a time.
  • Audiovisual materials may be checked out by staff members only.

 

LOST/DAMAGED BOOKS:

  • Students must pay replacement cost for lost library books.  The charge for hardcover books is $20.00.  The charge for paperback books is $10.00. The charge for magazines is $5.00.
  • Students who return damaged books will be assessed charges depending on the type of damage.
