We are pleased to announce that access to the school wide network, as well as the Internet, is available to students and staff in our school who qualify. To qualify, students and parents must read, sign and return our Acceptable Use Policy which will be given to students during the first week of school. The staff of McConnell Middle School strongly believes in the educational value of technology and recognizes its potential to support the curriculum and student learning in facilitating resource sharing, innovation, and communication. We will make every effort to provide quality experiences to students and teachers using these services, however, inappropriate interaction with any information service or inappropriate use of computer equipment is strictly prohibited. Please read this document carefully. Only after you and your parents/guardians have read and signed the document, will you be permitted access to the school's network. Please read this acceptable use policy carefully. After the student and a parent/guardian have read and signed this document, access to the school's technology will be permitted. Any student violating the provisions of this agreement may be denied access and will be subject to disciplinary action. McConnell Middle School Technology Acceptable Use Policy Terms and Conditions of This Agreement:  1. Personal Responsibility: As a representative of McConnell Middle School, each student accepts personal responsibility for reporting any misuse of technology.  Misuse is viewed as any inappropriate use of the technology or use for other than curriculum based assignments.  2. Acceptable Use: The use of school technology must be in support of the curriculum and in accordance with the educational goals and objectives of McConnell Middle School.  Students will be personally responsible for this provision at all times when using the school's network, computers, digital cameras, AlphaSmarts, handheld devices and all other technology.  3. Privileges: THE USE OF THE TECHNOLOGY IS A PRIVILEGE, NOT A RIGHT, AND INAPPROPRIATE USE WILL RESULT IN THE CANCELLATION OF PRIVILEGES. Prior to accessing the Internet students will participate in a discussion with a McConnell staff member as to proper behavior and use of the system. The McConnell Technology Coordinator and/or Administration will rule upon any inappropriate use and may deny, revoke or suspend usage.  4. Network Etiquette and Privacy: Students are expected to abide by the generally accepted rules of network etiquette. These rules include (but are not limited to) the following:  a. LOGIN.  All use of the network must be under the student's own login and password.  Passwords must be kept private.  If a student thinks someone has learned his/her password, the student should contact an adult immediately.  He/she will help the student change it.  b ELECTRONIC MAIL. Students may not send personal email using McConnell computers.  Email may be sent using a teacher's account when supervised by that teacher, if it is in support of the curriculum.  Electronic mail (e-mail) is not guaranteed to be private.  c. DOWNLOADS.  Students may not download any material without express permission from the technology coordinator. 5. Vandalism: Vandalism is defined as any malicious attempt to tamper with or destroy any of the technology. This includes, but is not limited to, the uploading or creation of computer viruses. Any vandalism will result in the immediate loss of privileges as well as further disciplinary action.  6. No software may be brought from home. Please sign and return this document to the homeroom teacher. STUDENT:  I understand and will abide by the provisions and conditions of this agreement and understand that any violations of the above provisions may result in the loss of my technology privileges as well as disciplinary action. I also agree to report any violations of this agreement.
